Hi, I’m Aakanksha (aa-kahnk-shaa). I love stars, the color red, em dashes, learning, and telling stories — emphasis on telling stories. As a child, I couldn’t bear to give anyone a straight answer. Every detail mattered.

Not much has changed since then. ​Originally from just outside San Francisco, CA, I’m currently pursuing a B.A. in Media & Journalism and Political Science with a concentration in Political Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill — which just means I get to take classes that teach me how to communicate impactful stories effectively. A lot of my work — ranging from reporting to helping build civic tech startups — focuses on connecting individual lives to the bigger picture, and drawing attention to institutional issues.

While I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, I am currently enamored by the world of visual communications, namely photography and filmmaking, as a bridge to exploring my various interests (both of which I’ve been teaching myself). 

That curiosity has also shaped where I want to go next. As AI becomes increasingly embedded in how we communicate and make decisions, I'm interested in understanding how emerging technologies ought to be governed, and how we can communicate complex policies in ways people can actually understand and act on. 

In the future, I hope to work in a space where I can combine my diverse communication and storytelling skills with my passion for strategy and policy in regulating technology. I want to help organizations navigate rapid technological advancements while making the broader implications legible to the people most impacted.
